The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!!!
Ya know why? It's already been over a week- those New Years resolutions are shot! Just when we begin to wallow in sadness over another set of goals not attained...
WHAM! 12th Night! The Feast of the Epiphany! The official start of the Carnival season, an endless stream of parties and revelry that continues all the way to Mardi Gras!!
I'm sure those who are all into Jeebus are supposed to go to church for some grand celebration of faith....
but Miss G and her friends prefer to gather and enjoy a grand celebration of cake!!
WHAM!
Miss Ginger has long held Gambino's King Cakes to be the best... especially the one they make with a cream cheese filling! Quite delicious!
Miss G's NOLA contacts have been telling her that the best King Cakes come from Randazzo's Bakery. But here's the dilemma: which one?
Would it be Randazzo's Camelia City Bakery in Slidell?
Or is it Manny Randazzo's King Cakes in Metairie?
Or, it might be Nonna Randazzo's Italian Bakery and Cafe in Covington?
Miss Ginger is pretty sure all of them would be better than the pathetic excuses we get for King Cakes here in Texas. All the grocers start putting king cakes on the bakery shelves this time of year, and they are pretty much all wretched wreaths of dry coffee cake sprinkled with colored sugar.
But, if one washes it down with sufficient adult beverages, even those can bring on the Mardi Gras spirit!
Happy Carnival, everyone! Mardi Gras is late this year so we have a LONG time to celebrate!
The People Choose Bad Drag!!
Miss Ginger is not a big fan of televised award shows- especially the modern ilk of "made for TV" award shows that some network executive dreamed up after losing the contract for the Oscars! So, Miss G didn't waste her precious time actually watching "the People's Choice" awards, because A: she couldn't possibly give less of a shit who wins and B: she doesn't even know who most of those D-list made-for-TV celebrities are!
That said, she does, of course, always want to see what her faves are wearing, so she pulled up the red carpet looks online this morning to see if she missed anything FABULOUS!
So you know a "red carpet" show is going to have issues when the carpet is BLUE. WTF?! And worse yet, some stupid queen set designers thought that silver lame would be tres chic for the step and repeat background! Moron! Every shot has a big "flash moon" over the shoulder! Never use reflective material for a background- Stage Dessign 101!!
You also know you are going to have issues when Kathy Griffin is the best dressed at the ball!
Chic, and she looks great in that hard-to-wear color! She even has the body for that hard-to-wear fabric! She just need someone to follow her around with a steamer to keep the wrinkles out!My idol, Queen Latifah, almost had it right!
The color is stunning on her. The slit is sexy without being vulgar, and shows off a FABULOUS shoe! Jewelry on the arms and ears to complement the bling on the neckline, which was pretty but a bit strange. Even stranger, Miss G understands that the off-center stripe breaks up the width. Still, this is one of those dresses where the sum of the parts does not equal FABULOUS! Girl, I love your curves, but you got too much tummy to pull of that sausage casing!!
Katy Perry looked like she just came from a San Fernando Valley prom, which is the schtick she wanted, I'm sure:
Khloe Kardashian looks like she swiped a dress out of Kirsty Alley's closet (PS: here's the "blue flash moon1)
That's pretty much all the people there that Miss G could pick out of a lineup with a shotgun! The rest are pretty much 2-bit TV performers with network sitcoms and bad occupational dramas. Miss G didn't bother to research their names, but the dresses are noteworthy:
While she loves the message, the execution is deplorable. It looks like she picked up a dress at "Hot Topic" and airbrushed the logo on the front. If you're gonna do, BRING IT, gurl!
This one looks like a cocktail waitress at a Vegas casino! Planet Hollywood, probably!
And finally, the previously unemplyed Conan O'Brien seems pleased as punch to have won this crystal clear butt plug. I'll bet he knows just where to put it when he gets it home!

Miss Ginger's New Addiction...
OMG! She has been having so much fun, and has been bawling like a big ole baby as she fills in the blanks and puts her family tree out there for the world!!
Yasee, the summer before Momma G died, her brother spent a week with her, and Baby G took a week of vacation to visit with them. While we were home doing not much of anything, I said to them "Hey- while the 3 of us are together- let's go through all those boxes and albums of old photos and help me label what we can! And we can write down dates and names so someday when no one else remembers, I'll have all the info!" Well, no one knew Momma G would die that November, least of all her, but all agreed it was a great idea. So, five days, three sharpies, a pad of post it notes later, Miss G had a reasonably well organized and indexed shoebox of photos, notes, and memorabilia. The couple of times she has tried to do something with it, she has become overwhelmed, and unable to find the right format to get it all together.
Enter Ancestry.com. Honestly, when Miss G signed up, she really intended to click a few links, decide it was a waste, and cancel the "14 day free membership". Boy, was she wrong! She has been able to find all kinds of dates that were missing, and has been able to enter a lot of correct information to replace public records or other entries that have been mislabled, mispelled, or misdated over the centuries! So far, she has made it back 4 generations, to her great, great grandparents! And there are still "leaves" to click on! Her family tree is preserved for posterity!!
At the risk of sounding sappy, it really is as easy as the TV commercial says! When a little leaf wiggles, you click on it, and it brings up records you didn't even know existed!!
And, the really exciting part is that Miss Ginger has photos to go with most of the records!! It may take her a few months to get them all uploaded into the right spots, but she's gonna do it! Finally, she has found a way to put all this together to preserve for her brother's kids. Hopefully, they will find it interesting!
Miss G is not sure why she is finding this SO emotionally overwhelming! She keeps getting all teary and choked up! Please excuse where while she goes to pull herself together!! meanwhile, check it out!!

Spooky-O!
There's a new website out there called Spokeo that is a stalker's dream come true! Just by searching a name, the site will bring up previously unlisted information about almost anyone in the US! Not only does it give name, adress, email, phone, stc, but it gives an estimate of yearly income, listing or real property owned and it's value, and all kinds of other dangerous stuff!!
Wanna stalk Martha Stewart? Check this out:
Wanna stalk Martha Stewart? Check this out:
Not only does it give us the exact address of the domestic diva's $1,519k home, it gives her phone number! It also tells us she's "in a relationship"! Miss Ginger may just have to google around a bit and find out who the ole broad is dating!!
I've checked out many of you GingerSnaps, and yes, you are on there!! With satellite pictures of your home and everything! Nice big windows, Auntie Flame!!
PLEASE, GINGERSNAPS, for the love of all things safe and holy, get yourself off of there! It's way more information than people need to be seeing about you! It's kinda tricky, but here's how you do it:
1. Go to www.spokeo.com and search for yourself.
2. Click on the link to bring up your info.
3. Your page will come up, with your the URL in the address bar. Right click on the address bar to copy it into clipboard.
4. Look at the bottom of the page, and way over at the right, under the map, in tiny letters; click on "privacy".
5. Scroll past the ridiculous ad offering to charge you to remove your information, and right click and past your URL into the field, along with your email address and the word verification letters.
6. Check your email, open the verification, and confirm that you want yourself removed.
Stay safe online, dear 'snaps!

Happy New Year from Miss Ginger Grant!
Before her balls drop and she forgets all of her acquaintances, Miss Ginger wanted to take a minute to say Happy New Year to all the GingerSnaps out there who have made her what she is today: an overweight, aging sometimes drag queen with a drinking problem and a bad back!
But really, the new year is a great time to reflect on the things we like about our lives, and the things we don't, and to determine which ones we are going to do something about! I'm not talking resolutions: those are just begging to be broken! She really means general ideas and practices that might change more than just one person's dress size!
So, putting it out there for the universe, here are Miss Ginger's "great ideas" for 2010:
1. Wouldn't it be great if we all just believed what we want to believe, and stop worrying about what others believe? Miss Ginger, for one, will no longer vacillate on the whole Jeebus thing: she doesn't believe it and she won't pretend! And honestly, what she does believe is really nobody else's business but her own! Miss Ginger promises she will not recruit your children to become drag queens if you stop recruiting people to become christians!
2. Wouldn't it be great if everyone were nicer? If the whole world would SLOW DOWN and not always be in such a rush, we'd have way more time to be nice to people! Even small gestures, like slowing down on the freeway to let a car in front of you instead of hitting the gas so they have to fall in behind! Miss Ginger is going to look for opportunities to perform such "random acts of kindness" every day!
3. Wouldn't it be great if we could resolve homelessness? Boy Ginger spends a lot of time downtown in the office this time of year, and the blight of homelessness weighs heavy on Miss Ginger's mind! She doesn't know the answer, and she needs to take on another cause like she needs another bra in her drawer, but she intends to spend some time this year exploring the problem and finding out what can be done to address the issue in her neighborhood!
4. Wouldn't it be great if everyone took responsibility for their own destiny, instead of looking to governments, institutions, and other sources for "relief"? Miss Ginger is a woman of charity, but she believes charity should give a "leg up" rather than a "hand out"! Let's stop bailing out industries, companies, and countries and focus our efforts on taking care of people who can't care for themselves! Even in a tough economy, most people should be able to find a way to participate in some way! Rather than feeling sorry for ourselves about job loss, company failures, changes in ability, etc, let's regroup, figure out what we need to change to go forward, and get back on the horse- ANY horse!
In closing, here's a little New Year's Toast:

Here's to the year that's ended,
and to the one that harkens-
let's put ideas in motion
before our outlook darkens!
Let' see that things get brighter
and ditch those that are daft-
and make sure life gets lighter
when Pailin gets the shaft!
Happy New Year, dear Ginger Snaps! Hope I get to meet you all in 2011!!
