Houston's out lesbian Mayor Annise Parker shows her NOH8 realness!!

Sooner or Later....

... it had to happen.

After a first term of relative calm as the first lesbian mayor of America's third largest city, Mayor Annise has become the target of ridiculous accusations from an offbeat radical of the religious right during her second term of office.

Recently, Parker has come under attack by the pastor of a supposed "megachurch" here in Houston, but, quelle surprise, even after googling it, Queen Ginger has never fucking heard of it!  Apparently, it is somewhere on the edge of town, with satellite locations at the other end of town and in, of all places, San Diego, CA!  Here in the land of megachurches, you've got to be pretty damn big to outshine Pastor Joel and the clan!


Actually, this time it's some asshat named Riggle- isn't that perfect- and he's up in arms because Parker has joined with 160 mayors of America's most progressive cities to call for legalization of gay marriage. 








Riggle, ignorant of the way the law works, holds forth that Mayor Parker is "not upholding the constitution" by calling for gay marriage, and that she should step down if she can't uphold the constitution as it is written. What a moron!


I guess in the 9th grade he was so busy with his nose stuck in a bible that he missed the part of civics class where we learn that the constitution can be amended, and that open discussion and dialogue sets the groundwork for those amendments to be written.  If Parker were performing gay ceremonies or signing same-sex marriage contracts, then perhaps she could be accused of not upholding the law, but she is not doing those things.  She is using her right to free speech, and using the machinery built into the constitution to keep it up-to-date and relevant.


Queen Ginger finds it funny that Riggle and his little 3,000 member congregation keep themselves up at night worrying about this shit!  Parker is serving her second term in a city of over 2 million people, a majority of which voted for her- twice- fully knowing that she is  lesbian, and fully knowing that Kathy, her wife, would serve as the city's "First Lady".  


How much time and tithe will the religious right piss away before they realize that are fighting a battle they can't win?!  Perhaps we should fight fire with fire and do it the Fred Phelps way... let's throw a party outside of every Catholic Funeral Mass and celebrate the fact that we are now one step closer to voting in gay marriage!


On second thought.... let's take the high road!  It's just a matter of time!

Happy Burch Day to You!!

When Miss Ginger awoke this morning, she knew that Boy G would be receiving an award from Legacy Community Health Services at their 8th Annual Luncheon.

What she did NOT know is that he would also receive an award from Mayor Annise Parker declaring today, September 21st, 2010 as George Burch Day in the City of Houston, Texas!!!

That's right!! Boy G has his own day!! September 21st!! Learn it, biotches!

Actually, he was truly touched and honored by the turnout today, and by the love and support shown him by his friends, family, and the entire community!! We ended the day with (several bottles of) prosecco at the Boom Boom Room! A delightful end to a delightful day!!

Today was so special, and ya wanna know the best part? Boy G marched right up to that microphone, swallowed his butterflies, and gave the acceptance speech of his life to almost 400 people!! He only had to fight back one tear, and I don't think anyone even noticed!! It was so easy because it was so heartfelt, and even though he had made notes for himself, he barely needed them!! Here's what he had to say:

The commitment and dedication of my friends at Legacy is inspiring, and the work they do is truly what deserves accolades and awards.

5 years ago, when Macy’s expanded to the nationwide presence we enjoy today, the company made a commitment to give back to the communities we serve, at both a national and local level. Among the focus categories are HIV/AIDS awareness, women’s issue, and education: all hallmarks of the programs Legacy Community Health Services provides to Houston’s neighborhoods. Truly a legacy worth celebrating!

As HIV infection has been managed and controlled with some success in the Gay community, it has continued to infect Hispanic and African American youth at an alarming rate. I’m proud to be able to help Legacy Community Health Services expand it’s care into the Lyon’s Avenue and Gulfton areas of Houston, not only to treat infection in those areas, but to educate the public and stop the spread, as well.

In closing, I’d like to thank Katy Caldwell and Chree Boydstun, and their staff and coworkers, for the friendship and encouragement that they have shown me these past few years. It’s been an honor to work with individuals who care about people as much as the folks at Legacy, and that’s really a reward of its own!"

Take Me OUT to the Ball Game!

Tonight is an event that Miss Ginger is pretty sure is a first for Houston, if not the world! "Pride in the Park" is a fund-raising event that will take place at a Major League Baseball game! Has that been done in any other cities?

A block of seats at Minute Maid Park (formerly Enron Field- scary, huh?) has been reserved for the event! Miss Ginger doesn't know a thing about baseball, but Boy G at least kinda knows the rules, and Legacy and Bunnies are among the beneficiaries, so he's gonna go give it a look-see. Minute Maid part is fun, and Boy G can always fit beer and boys in tight pants into his day!

EVERYONE whose ANYONE is gonna be there! The Gay Men's Chorus is singing the National Anthem, and our own Mayor Annise Parker is throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. I'm told Mayor A has quite the fastball!

Should be lots of fun. It's a shame the Astros don't play better!

... and the H8ting Begins!

It's was inevitable, really. Yet still, Miss Ginger is quite dissapointed in the Houston public's response to one of Ms. Parker's first actions as Mayor of Houston. Cue the trumpets: the battle is beginning!




Here in Houston there is an archaic law on the books that says the Mayor must be sworn in on January 2nd. This year, January 2nd falls on a Saturday, making it part of a long holiday weekend. Ms. Parker, in consideration of the expense and hassle it would take to have City Hall workers and Houston police work overtime on a holiday weekend, has opted for a private swearing it ceremony to be conducted by City Judge Steven Kirkland, who is also openly gay. A smart, responsible decision, right? Not to mention, totally the prerogative of the Mayor-elect.

OMG, you would think she has decided to paint City Hall pink and replace the fountains with live go go boys! Read the "comments" below the article from the Houston Chronicle! Of the 57 comments, most are speculating "secret backroom deals" , "games", and "hiding in the closet." Jeez, Louise, people!! She has opted to have the legally mandated swearing in privately on Saturday, so that the money being spent for the swearing in of the rest of the City's elected officials, scheduled for Monday, doesn't have to be spent twice!!!

I'm sure Annise knew and considered carefully the scrutiny and criticism she would face when she took on the challenge to run for Mayor. It just hurts Miss Ginger to have to look at all this ugliness in the face! I'm pretty sure Annise doesn't follow TFBOMGG, but if you do: "God love ya, baby! Stay strong! Don't let the h8ters get you down!"

She's In!!

Not all precincts have reported, and it's been a close race, but the Houston Chronicle has announced that Annise Parker has an "unbeatable lead" against her opponent in the race for Mayor of Houston, Texas!!!

Wow! An out lesbian voted in as Mayor of our nation's 4th largest city! There are many who thought it never could happen in Texas, but we believed, and it has come true!!!
I don't think Annise is a reader of TFBOMGG, but if you are: "Congratulations, darlin'! You deserve it and we are all damn proud of ya!"

The "Homosexual Agenda"!

My dear friend David Dust reminded all us Houston Bunnies and 'snaps to get out and vote today, and in his plea he referred to Annise Parker's opposition accusing her of furthering "The Homosexual Agenda"! Check it out on David's Blog! What a hoot- those idiots give us credit for being WAAAAY more organized than we really are!

Here is the REAL "Homosexual Agenda"!
9am: Get up late. Again.
10am: Coffee. Toast. S,S,S.
10:30am - 11am: Do hair (own).
Noonish- Show up at work.
1pm - 4pm: Do hair. (clients)
4pm-5pm: Drink wine at work and gossip with coworkers.
5pm: Go to bar, drink more wine, and gossip with coworkers.
8pm: Meet up with other friends at bar. Go eat mexican food and drink margaritas.
10pm: go to sleazier bar to find a hookup.
12am: leave sleazy bar frustrated because there were no suitable hookups.
12:30am: drive through Jack in the Box.
1am: pass out in the bed.

Election Update...

Annise made it to a runoff with former City Attorney Gene Locke. She came out ahead with 38% of the votes, so Miss Ginger has great hopes she will ultimately be Houston's 1st gay Mayor! The GLBTQ community has been behind Annise all along, and I'm sure the spirit will be even greater now that she's one step closer! Miss G may even have to throw a little campaign fundraiser to make sure she's got enough support to come out ahead!

Sue Lovell, the lesbian candidate for City Council, will also be facing a runnoff. She, too, was ahead in the popular vote, but not by a large enough margin to avoid a runnoff.

And unfortunately, our boy Carlos was not victorious, but DAMN, he is still ultra cute! I'm sure this won't be the last we see of Carlos in the Houston political scene! For now, Miss G leaves you with one more picture of the uber-handsome politico:

Tomorrow is Election Day!

And it's a big one for the GLBTQ community in Houston! Out lesbian Annise Parker, who has served on Houston's City Council and as City Controller, is running for Mayor! Both Miss Ginger and Boy Ginger have met Annise on several occassions and have always been struck by her smile and her sincerity. She is known for having run a tight ship with the city's pursestrings, which is important in our current economic environment! Better yet, while she is active, visible, and supportive within the GLBTQ community, the word on the street among the straights is that she is respected for having refrained from using her position to further a "gay" agenda. Personally, I think she has been more than "neutral", but clearly shrewd enough to remain fair, consistent, and popular!

There are 3 other candidates, and Annise and 2 others are considered "front runners". There is likely to be a run-off, and Miss G is quite sure Annise will be a part of it! Stay tuned for tomorrow nights election results- right here on TFBOMGG!

Boy Ginger on the News!

Not in the news. He's done nothing newsworthy. But he was pictured on the local news, which is kind of exciting! At the luncheon on Tuesday he had the opportunity to speak with Mayoral candidate Annise Parker, and the newscameras filmed him, abeit quite briefly.
