The Year has Started!

The new year starts today for the Krewe of Olympus- Texas, Inc, with the election of new officers!  We are truly Mardi Gras TEXAS-style this year, with 3 of our officers living in other cities! In addition to Houston, we now have Dallas, Fort Worth, and Austin on the board!  With Skype, email, and Southwest Airlines, who says we all have to be in the same city?!!

Last night, King Tony and Queen Ginger had a whirlwind night, beginning with the Krewe's Campaign party, at Chez Ginger.  The campaign part is where we all get together to booze and schmooze, and the members who have announced their candidacy bring "groceries" to bribe the members for their votes!  It's all in fun, and a great chance for the candidates to share their vision for the upcoming year!

King T and Queen G snuck out early to head over to "Bringin' in the Green", a St. Patrick's day fund raiser for the Montrose Counseling Center.  Once the social hour was over, our royals headed over to the Brazos River Bottom to check out the Mr, Ms, and Miss BRB contest, and wish our dear friend Aurora Briar the best on her step-down.

Tomorrow, the Krewe hosts it's Appreciation Party to show our love to all in the community who support hour endeavor!  It's always a lot of fun, and our first chance to watch the video recording of the event with our guests!

After that, a day in the office and then in the air again to Baton Rouge!  It's been since December that Boy G hasn't had a business trip, but now the twice-monthly travels begin again!

With the election of Ball Captain, next year's theme is secured! Now, you KNOW Queen Ginger is not going to spill the beans, especially during her return year!  This year, Queen G and King T will have the entire year to plan and execute the costume and presentation, to create the most extravagant, over-the-top return for the ball over which they will reign!  It also gives you far-flung GingerSnaps a full year to save your pennies and plan your travel- if you ever thought someday you'd want to see one of Miss G's balls  Mardi Gras shindigs, this would be the year to come!  There's room at Chez Ginger- first come, first served!! Ball XLII will be February 11th, 2012, at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Hope to see you all there!

Busy Drag Queen!!

Gurl- I. Am. BUSY!!!

Last night was FFHH for the Krewe, and Aurora's BRB Candidate show. Miss G never quite made it to the latter! Miss G had a long day at work and those Bud Lights were just sliding down too easily!

Today, there's a birthday party for Momma Locke down in Pearland. Now, Miss G loves Momma Locke dearly and wouldn't miss her party for the world- but, as you can see by this map- Pearland is very far away, and no roads lead to it!

Still, it's better than West Columbia, where she used to live. Again, if you refer to the map, you will see that West Columbia has fallen off the edge of the Earth and no longer exists! Good thing Momma sold the house when she did! Miss Ginger's riding with Mom and Dad... she doesn't want to take Veronique off-road!

Tomorrow, there's a silent auction and fund raiser for Bunnies on the Bayou at Guava Lamp. Miss Ginger LOVES her some bunnies, and she hears the baskets are well-stuffed. Oh, and they have Easter things to raffle off, as well!

Hope you FABULOUS people are having a FABULOUS weekend as well!

Miss Ginger's RoundUp is Almost Here!

Miss Ginger is enjoying a quiet night at home after 3 days of business travel- exhausting business travel! She's taking it easy tonight, and then tomorrow she's got to get stuff ready for the RoundUp show on Sunday!
Lot's to do, since she has put off finding an outfit! She needs to go to a western wear store, which could be a bit intimidating, but hopefully she can get the lesbians to go with her! They won't look as conspicuous as Miss G will picking through racks of women's western attire!
She's also making some of her famous grub, since the only thing better than a drag queen is a drag queen who can cook! There's gonna be pork tenderloin and lotsa sides for those who are hongry! The party starts at 3pm and we'll get the show going around 4pm. Lots of people are out of town this weekend, so if you're in town, Miss G REALLY needs your support for this one! Our goal is to raise at least $8,000 for Legacy, and we really think we can make it happen! Come to the show to learn about Miss Ginger's "Fun With Math" episode, and bring your handful of ones, which will turn into a handful of 2's when you walk through the door! Funny thing about this magic math, though. It only work's on the money you drop into the tip bucket!
It's at the BRB this Sunday! Email Miss G at ggrant008@aol.com if you need more info!

Are You Ready for the ROUNDUP?!

June 7th, 2009 3pm Brazos River Bottom, 2400 Brazos, Houston, TX
Miss Ginger's Roundup is comin' 'round the corner and it will be here before you know it! This is her biggest show of the year, and will feature performers from all over the community! Most importantly, Miss Ginger will "Round Up" the proceeds to the nearest thousand, and double the total!
So performers, if we raise, say, $800 in tips, Miss Ginger will "Round Up" to $1,000 and then double, so we would donate $2,000 to Legacy Community Health Services! But, if we can raise $1,001 from the floor, Miss Ginger will "Round Up" to $2,000 and then double for a donation of $4,000!!! And if we can get $2,001 on the floor, it parlays into a $6,000 donation to Legacy! Don't you want to be a part of that!? So round up a number, round up your supporters, and head to the BRB for a country swingin' good time!!
And if you're not a performer, we need you and your friends to head on over with a fist-full of dollars to help us hit a least $1,001!!! Or, bring your checkbook and make a tax-deductible donation to Legacy! Can't make it to the BRB for the show? How about sending a check to "Miss Ginger's Roundup", c/o Sonna Alton, Legacy Community Health Services, 1116 Jackson Avenue, Houston, TX 77006. We'll add it to the bucket and count it toward the "Round Up"!
Miss Ginger's counting on all her friends and fans to make this event a HUGE success!

Boy Ginger Helps to Select Mr. BRB!

Tonight, Boy Ginger had a great time serving a a judge for the Mr./Ms./Miss BRB Contest. Really, it was only a contest for Mr., since Ms. and Miss ran unapposed! Anyho, Mr. BRB is Steven Bunch, a handsome and friendly man that Miss G has come to know and respect over the last couple of years. Ms. BRB is the inimitable Chris "Sushi" Valk, whom Miss G loves dearly. And Miss BRB is Kimberly Ann O'Neil, who recently stepped down from her reign as the Empress of ERSICSS. Sunday night is their appreciation show at the BRB, and Miss Ginger herself will be making an appearance, so be sure to take a nap on Sunday afternoon so you can come to the 8pm show and cheer her on!
Several 'snaps have asked "what is BRB?" so Miss G, ever the teacher, will take a moment to educate you on some Texas "lore" and history. (We love our "lore" here in Texas!)

The BRB is the "Brazos River Bottom", the oldest continuously operating gay country and western bar in the US. That's our claim and we're sticking to it! The BRB has been operating under the same name in the same location for 31 years, so that is pretty much an icon of the community! The Brazos River runs through the middle of Texas from the central plains to the Gulf of Mexico, about and crosses the state about midway between Houston and Austin. And the BRB sits on Brazos street, midway between the downtown Skyscraper District and Montrose, Houston's gayborhood. When Miss G first came to Houston in the mid-80's the BRB sat by itself in this kinda scary "urban forest" which was really the overgrown foundations of homes long torn down, and had become a campground for Houston's "urban campers", otherwise known as "the homeless."

Anyho, toward the end of the '90's, some smart developer deemed this area be called "Midtown" and began building apartment buildings, lofts, and nighlife at breakneck speed. Midtown remains Houston's trendy area, and the suburbanites flock into town on weekends to party, club, and "be scene" in Houston's "velvet rope" establishments. And here in the middle of all this sits the BRB, in all it's faded glory!

I'll tell more about it and try to get some pics after the show on Sunday!
