Mardi Gras is Coming!

Yes, folks, there WILL be Mardi Gras at Chez Ginger this year!  Since leaving her former Mardi Gras group, there hasn't been a lot of revelry and costuming around here. But that wrong is being righted!!!

Behold:

Miss Ginger has been a member of this group since it's inception, as it is made up of people she loves and wants to be around. She has not been the most active member, since time and personal distractions have kept her from many of the activities, but wild horses could not drag her away from the inaugural ball:

Unlike her previous Mardi Gras group, which kept their event private, The Mystic Society's ball is open to the public… in fact, tickets are available through PayPal!
It's a formal affair, but masking is encouraged, and Captain I has promised that instead of a long, drawn out presentation, this ball is going to be a non-stop party, with dancing, drinking, and the requisite debauchery!  All you folks along the Gulf Coast need to follow that link and snap up a ticket to this shin-dig, and if you're farther away… plan a road trip! It will be worth it!!  Hope to see you all there!

I'm a Pinteste!

You'd have to be living under a rock not to have heard of Pinterest, the online "pin board" site from which Miss Ginger steals ideas gains inspiration!
You may not, however, have heard of Pintester,  the unabridged "companion site" written by Sonja Foust. Well now you have!  Don't miss it-  it's 10 times more entertaining than Pinterest, because it includes 100% more SNARK!
Here are all the things Miss Ginger loves about Pintester:
1. It's grassroots. Just a young lady trying to make a difference in the world- like Miss Ginger!
2. It involves crafts, cooking, and all things domestic-  like Miss Ginger!
3. It involves copious amounts of alcohol- just like Miss Ginger!
4. Consequently, things get fucked up-  like Miss Gingers!
5. She curses like a sailor- just like Miss Ginger!

Actually, I'm pretty sure Sonja and Miss Ginger are drag-queen twins, separated at birth by some drunk, cursing nurse at the hospital who was too distracted by her macrame to notice that one of us was stolen by some hateful trafficker who had an order for a girl with blue eyes! Glad he grabbed her and not me!!

ANY HO, Sister Sonja had the clever idea to enlist her readers in helping her test all the pins on Pinterest! Well, maybe not ALL of them (is anyone REALLY going to spray paint beans pink just so their vase won't be empty?! sheesh!)  She created an event she's calling "The Pintester Movement", and if you are reading this, you are now a part of it, because:

So, check out my first post as a "Pinteste" and let me know what you think!!

It's Almost Here!

It's almost here!  The party of the (half) century! You don't have to miss it... almost every major airline serves Louis Armstrong International Airport!  You may even be able to find a last-minut deal!  Can't wait to see who's coming to celebrate!

Happy Derby day Mayo!!

It's 2 of Miss Ginger's favorite spring Holidays, all rolled into one!!  Can't wait to see all her friends at Derby Day!!

The press has recently criticized the adult beverage companies for turning Cinco de Mayo from a cultural observance to a drunkfest.  Miss Ginger is gonna have to do a little research on that...

Meanwhile, Jeebus weeps for usurped holidays.....

Random Musings from Big Pink Ginger!

#1- "Pink" makes an excellent party theme!
#2- Give a drag queen a microphone and she never shuts up.                                             #3- Drag queens don't really need microphones!

#4- EVERYONE looks better dressed in pink, with pink lighting.
#5- Corrugated cardboard soaked in used cooking oil makes excellent chimney fuel. It burns all night. Trust!

Incredibly Busy!!

WTF?!  Queen Ginger is just not important enough to be THIS busy!!!
So much has been going on that Lady G just doesn't know where to begin!

First of all, it had been HEINOUSLY hot here in Texas this summer!  And DRY!!  In this soggy, humidity-ridden part of the state, we have actually been asked to ration water and reduce our dependence on electrical energy! The City of Houston has given us specific watering days (Sunday and Thursday for you detail queens!) and  ERCOT  has warned of record weekend usage, possibly requiring rolling blackouts over the weekend!  How will Miss G dry her luxurious red hair?

Additionally, social obligations have been off the charts!  It started with the HRC Gala at the beginning of the summer, and it hasn't let up yet! Last weekend was the Krewe's Trash Disco Party, and Queen G is STILL soaking her feet from all of that "boogying" and such!

On top of the social obligations, Boy G has been INSANELY busy at work, all in a good way, but there's never any rest for the winners!  Southern Decadence will be a "no go" for the G's this year... WAY too much going on, and too insanely hot to even consider attending! It's been a while since she's missed it, but this year, it's not in the cards!

And on top of all else,  the Queen decided her carriage did not befit a sovereign of her stature, so she has spent much of her online time as of late considering the options for new royal conveyance.

She's landed upon a model named after Amurca's 16th President,  and Queen G is proud to "Ride Amurcan", even though she knows it was assembled in Canada, from parts made in Malaysia!  But the engine and transmission were made in Amurca, dammit, hand assembled with loving care by migrant workers from Mexico!  It's as Amurcan as apple pie!

Lest my dear sister DD think she is going to get a ride to Gristedes after my trip through the tunnel (above), that is NOT the CDQG (Carriage de Queen Ginger)!  Her's is a more royal bronze tone, with a limited interior only found on a a select few vehicles!  And ALL Royal Carriages MUST be named, so look forward to a photo tomorrow so you can share your opinion of a title befitting such a luxurious machine!

Speaking of luxurious, Miss Ginger finally got a tour of the FABULOUS new Legacy Montrose Clinic she has been working so hard to help fund! Actually, "luxurious" is probably not an appropriate word to describe the practical, efficient facility that has been built to LEED compliance, but for the Legacy staff that has been scattered across the far-flung, under-spaced facilities, I'm sure it will feel like a dream come true!  Not to mention the clients, who will now have comfortable, spacious, private waiting rooms reserved for their specific needs!  There are separate facilities for primary care, eye care, dental care, pediatric care, behavioral care... 3 floors of care, plus administrative offices all in one place!  Both Queen Ginger and Boy Ginger could not be prouder of the "baby" they have worked so hard to produce, along with countless others in the Houston community who understand the need for this crucial care!

If you're so inclined,  plan on attending the Grand Opening ceremony on October 16th!  Miss G is pretty sure she can score you a VIP tour!!

So, our busy gurl gets to put on her scrubs tomorrow and help Boy G clean out the garage!  We can't expect that beautiful machine to bake in the hot Texas sun now, can we?!

Busy Beaver!

Queen Ginger has been a busy, busy beaver this week, and she can't believe she's just now getting a chance to catch up with all of her adorable GingerSnaps!!

This crazy week started with Houston's annual "Bunnies on the Bayou" party in the downtown Theater District. For the past few years, Queen Ginger has been a donor to this philanthropic event at the "Camp Bunny" level, so she gets a tent to shade her delicate pate, resplendent with a private "sal de bain" lest she have to stand in line behind the 3,000 other guests to do her "lady business"!  Yes, there were over 3,000 beautiful people at this year's record breaking event!

Queen Ginger and King Tony, clever Royals that they be, re-used some of the elements from their reveal backpieces to create a stunning place to "let them eat cake"!  Captain Bill provided cakes, crumpets, and tidbits for the masses as Queen Ginger and King Tony greeted, meeted, and otherwise hobnobbed with the hottest guys in Houston!  Don't believe me?  Check out the pics

Next up, Boy G co-hosted the unveiling of his newest pet project, the "Pathway to our Legacy" campaign, benefiting Legacy Community Health Services

Boy G is excited, proud, and honored to co-chair this campaign with Ben Montalbano,  a good friend and a great contributor to our community.  The event Thursday night took place at the gorgeous post-modern home of Ben and his partner Jim,  and included leaders from virtually every organization active in Houston's GLBT community and the Montrose neighborhood where the new building resides.  Most exciting is that the campaign allows individuals and groups to leave a lasting impression on our healthcare legacy for a little as $100, with a donation at the Sidewalk level.  Folks are already stepping up in droves to contribute to the campaign in memory of friends, partners, and family members who have died from or are living with HIV/AIDS, or have otherwise been helped by Legacy's services.  The Pathway and Plaza levels are $250 and $500, respectively, and there are also 8 lighted benches to be sponsored, at a donation of $5,000. Better hurry, though, because 2 have already been claimed- one by Miss Ginger, and one by Boy Ginger's generous employer!! There's only 6 left, and they will go quickly!

Friday night, Queen Ginger and King Tony were invited to perform at "Marty, the Montrose Art Party" benefiting the Healing Arts Program at Art League Houston. Although Miss G can barely draw a straight line with a ruler, she LOVES what the Healing Arts Program offers its clients, and she had a great time meeting them, seeing their work, and entertaining the crowd!

Saturday is "errands" day at Chez Ginger, and Sunday has become "cook for the week" day, so the rest of the weekend is kinda shot. Then, all of next week will be a blur as Miss Ginger prepares for one of her most important events of the season, "Derby Day", her signature event benefiting Legacy!

With all the interest in hats generated by the Royal wedding,  the Big Hat Contest is bound to be a major hoot!  Queen Ginger promises there will be lots of pics next weekend- but until then,  she may be a little scarce as she prepares herself and others for this big shindig!

Count Down to Derby Day!

It time to start making those big hats!  Derby Day will be here before you know it!  Check out the details here!

Do You Believe?

Whether or not you believe in Jeebus, surely you believe in Santa Claus!  How could you not believe that a man who loves every child on Earth would take one night a year to fly on a magic sleigh to deliver presents to each and every one of them!

Religious diatribes aside,  the Holidays are a GREAT time to give back to your community, while spirits are high and needs are at their greatest!

Once again, Miss Ginger's other persona is proud to be a part of Macy's "Believe" campaign,  inviting people young and old to write letter to Santa expressing their wishes and hopes for the holiday season!  Every Macy's store across the country has a special Macy's mailbox and a "Believe Meter" that tracks the wishes as they are received!  Macy's will count up the wishes,  make a $1 donation to the "Make a Wish" foundation for each one, and then forward to Santa at the North Pole for him to check against his "naughty or nice" list!  Our goal is to donate $1,000,000 to Make a Wish.  So far, the Believe Meter says we are a little over halfway there, so we need everyone's help to make sure we receive enough letters!!

Won't you write a letter to share your wish with Santa, and help the Make a Wish Foundation grant the wishes of a child in need?  You can go to Santa's Post Office to download stationery, find a mailbox, or even see what some of your favorite celebrities have wished for this year!

Once you've written your letter, just take it to any Macy's store (you know you'll be going there several times this season, anyway!) and drop it into the mailbox. It's that easy to do something great for someone who really needs a smile this year!

If you drop your letter on on December 10th, 2010, Macy's will DOUBLE it's donation as they join Make a Wish in celebrating National Believe Day!!!

And, on December 17th, at 8pm EST, 7pm CST,  tune into CBS Television for "Yes, Virginia- The Animated Special, brought to you by Macy's!

(This trailer has last year's date. The 2010 screening is December 17th)

If you believe in Miss Ginger, surely you believe in Santa Claus!  And, while you're at it, why not leave Miss Ginger a comment and tell her why you believe!

Miss Ginger Survives!

You've all heard about it!  Some of you may have even seen it!  Very few survive it, but Miss Ginger has survived the Blue Screen of Death!!

A lot of people bitch about the Windows operating system, and it does suck that they are allowed pretty much a total monopoly in PC operating system world.  But, computers are very complicated machines, and, contrary to what Mr. Jobs may wish you to believe,  Mac OS operating systems crash, too!

This time Miss Ginger was lucky, as her machine seems to have bounced back, healthier and happier than ever!  And Miss G learned some lessons along the way, which she will share now in random order.

1.  If you suffer TBSOD, succomb to its demands!! Read the parts that aren't gibberish, and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS! (I know this will be hard for you real men out there!)  Typically, they will instruct you to shut the machine down and restart. When you do, read the screen and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!!  Windows may offer to recover for you, in which case you are blessed.  If not, it will at least offer to open in "safe" mode, which usually puts the Gods of Microsoft in a better mood, and will then allow you to recover.  If you are lucky like Miss G, and patient (unlike Miss G) you will be walked through a series of updates, downloads, and restarts that will get you up and running again.
2. A few things to remember: "safe mode" is your friend. "Restore points" are your friend. "Driver updates" are your friends.  TBSOD is typically caused by a faulty or outdated driver.  If you are patient (and lucky) with the Windows recovery process,  it will detect the bad driver, find an updated version, and install it. If you FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!  And say a few Hail Marys. Or drink a few Bloody Marys.  Choose your own poison.
3. "Windows Updater" is not to be ignored.  Yes, it tends to pop up and offer it's services at "climactic moments" in your browsing life. Yes, they are time consuming and annoying and often require at least one restart of your system. Yes, they are just another way that Microsoft Corporation monopolizes our time and our lives. But, they have us by the balls, so to speak. So do yourself a favor and install them.  Don't let 6 or 7 updates pile up the way Miss Ginger did. That makes the Gods of Microsoft very angry!
4. Use a backup drive! And Miss Ginger means USE a backup drive... don't buy one at Sam's Club,  plug it in once, and then forget to plug it in again the next time you move your computer!  Miss Ginger uses has the "Clickfree" drive, and it's really cute and tiny and easy to use.  All you have to do is plug it in... hence Miss Ginger's problem.  They now have a wireless version, so you don't even have to plug it in.  For the extremely lazy. Like Miss G.

So there you have it... computer advice from the most computer illiterate drag queen on Earth!

Sheer Terror!

I mean, sure, Miss Ginger gets a little wild at times when she drinks to much,  but as long as she's not driving,  is that REALLY grounds to report her and have her killed?!

You can bet your sweet bippy Miss Ginger won't be visiting the Northland Region and time soon!!

And to think, up until now, New Zealand was kinda on her bucket list!

Miss Ginger Gives Heartfelt Thanks!

This Thanksgiving,  Miss Ginger gives heartfelt thanks for the many blessings she has received in her life!  As you may assume by the somewhat tumultuous state of her faith, she's not exactly sure to whom she gives thanks, but it doesn't really matter! Jeebus, Buddah, and Allah the rest will recognize her appreciation of the gifts she has received!

She is thankful for an abundance of friends, from all faiths, locations, and walk of life!  Truly, it is a blessing to come from her humble background and be given the opportunity to appreciate heritage, diversity, and the future that an appreciation for both can promise!

Miss Ginger and Boy G are truly blessed by a loving family who takes this ride called life with her!  They didn't ask for a gay brother, but they got one, and it didn't change a thing!  Momma G taught that familial love should be unconditional,  and Miss G's bubbas have come through with flying colors!  They may not love the idea- but they they love me- and that's really all that matters!

Miss G is blessed to have a FABULOUS job with a terrific company that has values behind it's brand and supports them every day!  Miss Ginger is inspired to get results, give back, and win with her team every day, and couldn't be prouder to represent a company with values that align with her own!

And mostly, Miss Ginger is thankful for you, dear GingerSnaps!  Without you,  Miss G is just an oversized dress on a hanger in the closet;  a falling red updo on a mangled styrofoam head.  But, through your interest, your love, and your support, Miss Ginger comes to life every day-whether or not she tucks her junk, shaves her chest, and paints her face like a rodeo clown!!  You bring Miss Ginger to life every day,  and she lives to read your comments and follow your posts!

Love to all this Thanksgiving Day!

Miss Ginger Has the Sads....

... for Mr. Mischief's friend! (For those of you "in the know", Mr. Mischief is Mr.Miss Alaineous. But it's not apropos of the point!)

Mr. Mischief found out today that a classmate is dying of cancer.  This is a girl in his small work group, someone he sees often. She had no idea that she had cancer, then felt ill a few days, went to the doctor, and WHAM!: "terminal cancer, hitting hard and quick!"  No hope for recovery, just palliative care. She has no no husband, no kids, no parents....

Miss G has the sads for her... and others like her.... and those who interact with them daily.

And she also has the sads for our "get it and go" society that so often loses patience with the world around us!

So please, GingerSnaps- think of this girl!  Think of the compassion she deserves. Think of the pain she will suffer. And think of her loneliness and desperation!

And think of her often!  And think of her at the times when she can be an inspiration to us most!

Think of her when the girl at Macy's misplaces your "hold", even though it was the last size 12 on Earth!  That girl could be her!  Is that dress so important?

Think of her when the guy at Starbucks puts 3 Sweet and Lows instead of 3 Splendas in your triple-venti-non-fat-three-splenda latte!  That guy could be her!  Does that coffee really taste THAT bad?

Think of her when Socialite Barbie pulls her Benz in front of you as you turn into the garage for your checkup.  Didn't she see you coming? Maybe not. She may have had something more life-changing on her mind than your left turn!

Think of her when the old lady in line at Chick fil A has apparently never been to Chick fil A in her life, and doesn't realize there is only one choice here-  "original" or "grilled". That old lady could be her.  Can you really be selfish about YOUR time now?

Speaking of time:  when was the last time you volunteered a little of your own to help people like this young lady?  She's dying of cancer. She has no family.  She's gonna need some help here!
American Cancer Society
American Heart Association
National Stroke Association
March of Dimes
Legacy Community Health Services

Don't let this young lady's suffering be in vain!  Perhaps her purpose in life is to serve as a reminder to us all that every moment of our lives deserves appreciation and respect!  Our moments on Earth are finite, and we must all use them in a way that will bring the most joy, peace, and happiness to the planet we share!

Miss Ginger implores you:  give some time-  give some money-  or just cut someone a little slack!  However you choose to give back,  your giving spirit will be rewarded tenfold, especially during the holidays, when needs peak and giving all but dries up for most charitable organizations!

Happy Holidays, GingerSnaps!  Give back!

Great Night in NOLA!

Miss Ginger had a great first night in NOLA, heading straight to the 700 Club after unpacking her bags at the luxurious New Orleans Marriott French Quarter! The place was packed with Decacadent Ducks, and among them was none other than Candy Samples, who made it down to the Big Easy from the Big Apple! She's a hoot and half, and really cute boy, too! Miss Ginger had the chance to meet him and chat him up for a while, and hopefully she'll get to catch at least part of her show on Sunday! Check out her site!

After a few hours of boozing, it was time for "Miss Ginger's Annual First Night Midnight Nosh" at the Clover Grill! I'll tell you, there's nothing like it!!
With a full tummy, Miss G headed to bed.... there's still a lot of weekend ahead of her!

Here She Goes... Again!

Tonight is repack night for Miss G. She arrived home after 2 nights in NOLA on business, and she has tonight and tomorrow AM to wash and repack before heading off to Europe for her annual trip across the pond!

She had so much fun last year at Amsterdam Pride that she has decided to return, and make this year bigger and better than ever!

On last year's trip the trio decided the only way to do it was on a canal boat, and we vowed in our drunken stupor that next year, a boat on the canal was the only to go! Lucky for Miss G, she sobered up the next day! Even luckier for her, Aunt Tonya and Captain Bill didn't, so, while she sleeps in her first class room at the Sofitel, the boys will be "roughing it" on their rented canal houseboat! But, for the parade, Miss G can put on that fabulous dress she made from the Minnow's sails and have a day of fun right on the canal! And the best news yet... even if a terrible storm blows across the canal, Miss G can just scramble up to the street in safety and not risk being stuck on a desert island with that lecherous Skipper or the lesbious Mary Ann!!

After a long party weekend and a full Monday to recover, the worldly Miss G and her companions will board the Artisia overnight train and head down to Venice, Italy, for a couple of nights of sightseeing and pasta, but mostly wine. As you know, Miss G LOVES her some Pinot Grigio, and she intends to scour Italy trying to find the very best!! After Venice, we'll spend a couple of nights in Firenze, and then on to Rome for a quick overnight tour before winging back to Texas!

She knows from experience that she can post from Amsterdam, and she's pretty sure she can upload from Italia, so you can look forward to lots of FABULOUS pics of our adventures!

Isn't it Ironic? (and yeah, I really do think...)

How ironic is it that around the same time that BP finally manages to do SOMETHING semi-successful to stop the surge of oil into the Gulf, the oil itself makes its most dramatically damaging landfall yet, on the snowy white beaches of Pensacola, Florida?

And to make it the timing even more reprehensible, it was the same weekend that Jimmy Buffet planned to open his first
Margaritaville Hotel in Pensacola! Dead oysters, oily birds, fucked up beaches, and thousands of
people out of work! How much worse can this get?

And just about the time public opinion of BP couldn't get any lower, this image starts to circulate the interwebz! WTF?! Reap what ye shall sow!!

But it's not all bad news!! Miss Ginger's RoundUp went on as planned, and Miss G got to wear this FABULOUS sparkling cowgirl look designed and created by "Momma" Weldon!

She and her FABULOUSLY handsome dancers started the show with a western boogie that got the crowd shakin'!

After Miss G and the boys, one of Miss Ginger's Best Sisters (and Miss Mint Julep 2006) Aurora Briar, took to this stage in a Cravyn original pink and black number that knocked our socks off!!

Mona Lotta, the reigning Miss Mint Julep, rounded out the Julep returns in this dazzling cowgirl ensemble!

In addition to the returning Juleps, we also featured some aspiring Juleps, our candidates for Mint Julep 2010, including the incredibly hot and leather-clad Alex Stroud, and the adorable and bubbly Isabella Rose Mink!

What a great night was had as we raised $4,000 for Legacy Community Health Services! All in all, a pretty FABULOUS day!

The Smells of Childhood....

...as remembered by Miss Ginger!

Miss Ginger has read somewhere that fragrances are the most remembered human perception. We may or may not remember sights or sounds, but are likely to always recognize scent. Such was the case today when a lady at the store was wearing Oscar de la Renta fragrance. It made Miss G whirl in her shoes when she caught a whiff of it, because that was the only fragrance Momma Ginger ever wore! Actually, Momma G was allergic to most perfumes, but her "fragrant luxury" was Oscar de la Renta Dusting Powder, applied lightly after she took a shower! Miss G has always associated the scent with Momma and cleanliness, two of her favorite things on Earth! It got Miss G to thinking about other childhood smells.

My maternal grandmother Zha Zha (that's a whole 'nother blog post!) used Rose Milk hand lotion... the kind they used to advertise on the Lawrence Welk Show! It used to come in a pump bottle shaped like a milk can, but apparently now comes in this plain, non-descript bottle. Many people find the milky rose smell kinda icky and "old ladyish", but it reminds me of my Zha Zha, so I love it very much!

The final of my fond childhood smell memories was a bush outside of my Great Aunt Nen's house, which Momma called a "magnolia fuscata". The buds looked like tiny little magnolia buds, no bigger than the tip of your little finger, and they opened into the tiny litte miniature replicas of a magnolia blossom. But they smelled like a heavenly mix of flowers and bananas, and when the morning sun warmed that bush on a spring morning you could smell it from blocks away! Aunt Nen loved the smell and liked to bring the blossoms indoors, but she found it too strong to have them indoors for too long. So she would put a handful of the buds into this little ceramic pot that she had, and would set the lid askew so the fragrance could waft out. Then, when it became too strong, she would situate the lid completely and "shut off" the fragrance for a while. Miss Ginger still has the pot in her kitchen, but alas has been unable to locate a magnolia fuscata shrub to plant in her yard!

Miss G also remembers some smells that were not so pleasant, but they still make her smile to remember as well.

Growing up, we had an Irish Setter named Holly (this is not actually her) that Miss G loved very much. As is common for the breed, Holly was prone to ear mites, and often got terrible ear infections from them. And when those ears got infected, Lord did that dog stink! When Momma G could take the smell no longer, she and Miss G would go to the vet to get a bottle of the pink ear wash that was the preferred treatment, at least in those days. We would take the poor dog on the back porch, and Momma would help me hold the dog and try to distract me from the HORRIBLE smell as I washed that putrid stuff out of her ears, trying to focus on Momma's soft, calm voice instead of the squirming dog or the nausea welling up in my throat! God, that was a horrible smell!

But, not as bad as the odor at one of Daddy G's best clients, Miscele's Meat Packers. Get your minds out of the gutters, people... it was a SLAUGHTERHOUSE, and it was one of the worst smelling places on Earth! Miss G only ever had to go there with Daddy a couple of times, and she never went past the front reception area, certainly never into the plant itself where there would be dead animals and uncontrollable stench! But that horrible odor started as one pulled into the parking lot, and even the offices stank to high heaven! Miss G remembers once saying to the receptionist "How do you stand it?" to which she replied "Oh, after awhile you don't even notice it!" I can't imagine ever getting used to that smell!

And Miss G's final olifactory memory for today: the pogy plant! South of Lake Charles, where Miss G grew up, was a little coastal town called Cameron, Louisiana. Near Cameron, where the ferry on Highway 27 crossed the Calcasieu Ship Channel, was a fish processing plant where they made fishmeal for fertilizer and animal feed. Fishing for Gulf Menhaden, or pogy, was a big commercial venture for the community. The fish are similar to the menhaden that are used to make sardines, but due to the heat in the Gulf Coast area, they can't be fished successfully for human consumption because their tiny little bodies begin to spoil too rapidly. So, vessels full of rotten fish would pull up to this plant to have have their cargo offloaded, ground, and packaged. When we would go fishing we would boat right past it! As we approached it we always hoped for calm waters and no wake from the ferry. Then we would shout "Floor it, Frank!", and as Daddy G gunned the engines to speed us by we would take a huge gulp of air and try to hold our breath until we made it past the plant! You can't even IMAGINE the horrible stench of that place, but Miss G can remember it like it was yesterday!!
I hope you have enjoyed this sniff back in time! What are some of the fragrances and odors you remember best?!
