Provocative....

Do you ever start to comment on someone else's blog, and then stop yourself so you don't commit "blogjacking?" Miss Ginger doesn't do it often enough, and she apologizes profusly for her gaff if she has "jacked" any of your comment sections!
But sometimes you read a post that so provocative that you just have to let it out! So this post references one made by Sheria on her blog, The Examined Life. (Check her out!)
Sheria blogged on the poor judgement of several reporters, cartoonists, and business people who had produced works that many percieved as racist. Because she truly has a beautiful soul, I think she was much more understanding of the ingorance that created these "works" than I would have been!
It made me think about the way society "groups" and "labels" people, and how those labels can be perceived as "politically correct" or "not". And how they are not applied consistently.
My ancestors came to this country from Germany. My Grandfather was born there, and because of his heavy accent, the people in the small town where I grew up nicknamed him "Dutch". It was not meant to be mean spirited, and he didn't take it that way. When he had a son, he proudly nicknamed him "Dutchie", and I still call him "Uncle Dutchie" to this day. But I don't consider myself a "German American", but simply "American". Even though one of my favorite family heirlooms is a cuckoo clock. And I've been known to wear leiderhosen!

No one even thinks of my "Germanity" as a minority, even though there are probably more people of Italian, English, Mexican, or African decent in the US than Germans. Why are "African Americans" considered a minority, but "German Americans" are not? Miss Ginger doesn't even like the word "minority"- it seems demeaning.

I'm not sure how others feel, but Miss Ginger thinks it's interesting that people within my same "minority" can call me anything they want, but you'd better say it like you mean it! For example, when I am flamboyant, a gay man can say to me "you are such a fag!" which I would take as a compliment. But my coworkers better not say that or I'd be in HR before you knew what hit you! (probably my purse!) And another drag queen can say to me "gurrrl, you are one fierce tranny!", but that's kinda weird if you're not a drag queen (or at least a drag aficianado!) And NO ONE calls me a tranny ho' and gets away with it: I will CUT you! (Just kidding- a little tranny humor there. I have never actually cut anyone except myself. And not on purpose. I'm not one of those goth girls who cuts herself!)

This post had a point- which I've lost. But I think is was:

"Why can't we just all love each other- dammit!"

And I personally think the President should be able to plant whatever he wants at the White House! Who says it has to be roses? When Miss Ginger becomes the first drag queen president, here is what she will plant:

I follow Sheria, but haven't read her latest entry yet. I'll head right over.

I'm becoming increasingly disturbed by the intolerant tone I'm sensing lately. It's almost like one step forward, two steps back, and it's dismaying. :(

Gee. I don't know what blogjacking is so I don't know if I'm guilty of it or not. Help! gimme a clue.
Good point about dissecting society into smaller and smaller segments until it's bigotry from neighbor to neighbor.
It's dangerous to say anything these days. Period. Good posts Miss Ginger.

I hate labels, too, Miss G.
Let's start with we're all human and stop right there.
Then we're all alike and we all get the same rights and no one gets hurt.

Love.

Miss G- My grandparents on my mother's side were born in Switzerland and Czechoslovakia. And it is the same thing with you. When I tell people this they always say oh, your European. No that's my background, I was born here I tell them. And you don't blogjack. I know I love to her from you and your thoughts. You are one passionate person who I'm glad I am getting to know in the blogosphere. And the cucumbers. Any reason the cucumbers? HeHeHe!

I may not be black, but I can relate. I find it remarkable that Native Americans are required a to carry a card proving how much is in your blood. Funny I don't see anyone else being required to prove lineage in this whole damn big country. Me? I refuse to carry one.

As for the rest of it...you can try to hid racism under vieled humor, but you can still spot the racist a mile away.

These days a name is nothing more than a name that points in which direction the person is spouting his mouth off of stands. They tend to be the ones with the loudes mouths. (Hugs)Indigo

Your analogies were spot on, and have to say here in the UK they have their fair share of names for the different nationalities, none of them promote togetherness.

Good Post

Take care

Geez, I think I'm in love with you. Yeah, I know that there may be a few issues, but I'd marry you in a heartbeat. Your examples are so on target. You may hijack my blog any time that you want. Thanks for saying that I have a beautiful soul; I'm going to use that line the next time someone accuses me of being a bitch. I may be a bitch, but I have a beautiful soul.

If you don't want to get married, how about letting me be your campaign manager when you run for president?

Miss Ginger Grant, you have a beautiful soul!

Any thing that one does, speaks,or draws can offend one or many-think about the word "paddy wagon" in regards to the irish immigrants. We should stand up and be responsible and accountable for our own actions-no matter the consequences. To play the race or discrimination card takes away one's accountability.

Not all people may be aware that persons of German and Italian ancestory were put in camps like the Japanese were in WWII and german Shepherd and Dachsunds were shot by police and ctizens in anger to Hitler. People had to hid their dogs and almost both breeds were wiped out-hard to beleive, but true. MBC
