NIRVANA!!!!!

OMG- GingerSnaps!!!   Miss Ginger's life is complete! Should a truck hit her tomorrow, no regrets (just a tangled mess of bills, debt, wigs and eyeglasses) would be left behind!!!!


The beautiful lady to the left, Shelby Hodge, has been penning the coming's and going of the social scene in Houston since Miss G got here. (Shelby MUST have been the youngest social columnist in the business back then!)  When Miss G first came to Houston, Shelby wrote for the Houston Post, and Miss G followed her column religiously,  hoping to be a "sightemed" at a "swakienda" SOMEWHERE west of the Mississippi!!


Some years ago, the post folded into the Chronicle, Miss Ginger's oft-quoted source of all things Texicana.  A couple of years after, Shelby disappeared from the Chronicle's fading pages, only to reappear, bolder and more timely than ever, as the Editor-at-Large for Houston's online source for the happenings about own, houston.culturemap.com.  Screw papercity, people- culturemap is THE place to get the dirt on what's happening around town!  No slumming at Eatzie's  Cafe Express  Barnaby's to find the latest issue- culturemap's webeditions appear on your screen each morning, before your Height's-brew coffee even has time to temper your River Oak's hangover from the night before!!


ANYHO, Shelby's most recent column highlighted one of Miss Ginger's signature events, The Mint Julep Pageant, and don't fail to notice, people, that Miss Ginger was the FIRST QUEEN MENTIONED!!!  In the words of Alexis Mateo:  BAM!!!!


Hopefully, all you Houston 'Snaps out there are already planning to attend the event, one week from this Sunday, at Rich's!  And if you're not:  WHAT THE HELL'S YOUR PROBLEM?!!!

Incredibly Busy!!

WTF?!  Queen Ginger is just not important enough to be THIS busy!!!
So much has been going on that Lady G just doesn't know where to begin!

First of all, it had been HEINOUSLY hot here in Texas this summer!  And DRY!!  In this soggy, humidity-ridden part of the state, we have actually been asked to ration water and reduce our dependence on electrical energy! The City of Houston has given us specific watering days (Sunday and Thursday for you detail queens!) and  ERCOT  has warned of record weekend usage, possibly requiring rolling blackouts over the weekend!  How will Miss G dry her luxurious red hair?


Additionally, social obligations have been off the charts!  It started with the HRC Gala at the beginning of the summer, and it hasn't let up yet! Last weekend was the Krewe's Trash Disco Party, and Queen G is STILL soaking her feet from all of that "boogying" and such!


 On top of the social obligations, Boy G has been INSANELY busy at work, all in a good way, but there's never any rest for the winners!  Southern Decadence will be a "no go" for the G's this year... WAY too much going on, and too insanely hot to even consider attending! It's been a while since she's missed it, but this year, it's not in the cards!


And on top of all else,  the Queen decided her carriage did not befit a sovereign of her stature, so she has spent much of her online time as of late considering the options for new royal conveyance.

She's landed upon a model named after Amurca's 16th President,  and Queen G is proud to "Ride Amurcan", even though she knows it was assembled in Canada, from parts made in Malaysia!  But the engine and transmission were made in Amurca, dammit, hand assembled with loving care by migrant workers from Mexico!  It's as Amurcan as apple pie! 




Lest my dear sister DD think she is going to get a ride to Gristedes after my trip through the tunnel (above), that is NOT the CDQG (Carriage de Queen Ginger)!  Her's is a more royal bronze tone, with a limited interior only found on a a select few vehicles!  And ALL Royal Carriages MUST be named, so look forward to a photo tomorrow so you can share your opinion of a title befitting such a luxurious machine!

Speaking of luxurious, Miss Ginger finally got a tour of the FABULOUS new Legacy Montrose Clinic she has been working so hard to help fund! Actually, "luxurious" is probably not an appropriate word to describe the practical, efficient facility that has been built to LEED compliance, but for the Legacy staff that has been scattered across the far-flung, under-spaced facilities, I'm sure it will feel like a dream come true!  Not to mention the clients, who will now have comfortable, spacious, private waiting rooms reserved for their specific needs!  There are separate facilities for primary care, eye care, dental care, pediatric care, behavioral care... 3 floors of care, plus administrative offices all in one place!  Both Queen Ginger and Boy Ginger could not be prouder of the "baby" they have worked so hard to produce, along with countless others in the Houston community who understand the need for this crucial care!


If you're so inclined,  plan on attending the Grand Opening ceremony on October 16th!  Miss G is pretty sure she can score you a VIP tour!!


So, our busy gurl gets to put on her scrubs tomorrow and help Boy G clean out the garage!  We can't expect that beautiful machine to bake in the hot Texas sun now, can we?!

I am SO PROUD to be co-chairing the "Pathway to our Legacy" campaign with Ben Montalbano, and I'm very excited that our kickoff starts tomorrow with a party at the  site of the new building!

We'll be talking about the "Pathway to Our Legacy" campaign, which Miss G is co-chairing with Houston socialite Ben Montalbano.  The campaign officially kicks off Tuesday, May 17th, and on that day, Miss Ginger will post the link where you can purchase your own memorial brick to commemorate someone special.  It's gonna be a busy week for our girl!

Big Week!

It's been a big week full of big events and big hats, and more excitement still to come!!


Saturday, Miss Ginger was honored to host the 4th Annual Derby Day at the BRB, benefiting Legacy Community Health Services! This event has really grown since we started it 4 years ago, and more people than ever participated in the hat contest and general frivolities of the day!  Of course, Miss Ginger's hats had to be the biggest and most fabulous, and her first one was resplendent with pink roses in her favorite shades of blush and bashful!  All those flowers also attracted 3 huge butterflies, and the whole this topped out almost 3 foot above the top of her head!! She almost pulled an all-nighter Friday to get 3 hats together, but it was worth it to hear the crowd ooh and aah over them!

Sunday was a day of rest and reflection! In honor of Momma G, Miss Ginger spent most of the day in the kitchen, doing the things Momma G taught her!  She's always with me when I'm in there, and I can hear her talking me through every step of every recipe!  Today, we made one of her favorites: Corn and Tomato soup! It's so easy- make a vegetable broth, strip the corn from the cobs and throw it in there, and add a can of tomatoes!  Yum!  Corn is in season right now so it's really cheap and beautiful!






There were also several naps interspersed throughout Sunday as she prepares herself for the other big event of the week:  meeting Nutwood Beth and Bucko in NOLA!!  Beth was one of the first bloggers to befriend Miss G back in the AOL Journal days, and we've kept up with each other ever since, and have always vowed to meet!  So, this week is it!  She and her hubby arrived last Saturday, along with her cousin and their partner, and they have been partying all weekend!  During the week they have lots of fun, touristy stuff planned, and Miss G gets into town Wednesday evening for our first "meetup" and few nightcaps!  Thursday Miss G will work, then Thursday night and Friday, it's all about the party!  Miss G can't wait to show them all her favorite places, and is looking forward to taking them Molly's at the Market so they can meet Mr. Wu!!

They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas- presumably because every vows to follow that "code".  But what happens in NOLA stays in NOLA, too.  But that's because everyone drinks so much, they really don't remember!!


But, with 3 of us blogging the goings on, you can all expect a full report!

Busy Beaver!

Queen Ginger has been a busy, busy beaver this week, and she can't believe she's just now getting a chance to catch up with all of her adorable GingerSnaps!! 


This crazy week started with Houston's annual "Bunnies on the Bayou" party in the downtown Theater District. For the past few years, Queen Ginger has been a donor to this philanthropic event at the "Camp Bunny" level, so she gets a tent to shade her delicate pate, resplendent with a private "sal de bain" lest she have to stand in line behind the 3,000 other guests to do her "lady business"!  Yes, there were over 3,000 beautiful people at this year's record breaking event! 

Queen Ginger and King Tony, clever Royals that they be, re-used some of the elements from their reveal backpieces to create a stunning place to "let them eat cake"!  Captain Bill provided cakes, crumpets, and tidbits for the masses as Queen Ginger and King Tony greeted, meeted, and otherwise hobnobbed with the hottest guys in Houston!  Don't believe me?  Check out the pics! 


















Next up, Boy G co-hosted the unveiling of his newest pet project, the "Pathway to our Legacy" campaign, benefiting Legacy Community Health Services. 

Boy G is excited, proud, and honored to co-chair this campaign with Ben Montalbano,  a good friend and a great contributor to our community.  The event Thursday night took place at the gorgeous post-modern home of Ben and his partner Jim,  and included leaders from virtually every organization active in Houston's GLBT community and the Montrose neighborhood where the new building resides.  Most exciting is that the campaign allows individuals and groups to leave a lasting impression on our healthcare legacy for a little as $100, with a donation at the Sidewalk level.  Folks are already stepping up in droves to contribute to the campaign in memory of friends, partners, and family members who have died from or are living with HIV/AIDS, or have otherwise been helped by Legacy's services.  The Pathway and Plaza levels are $250 and $500, respectively, and there are also 8 lighted benches to be sponsored, at a donation of $5,000. Better hurry, though, because 2 have already been claimed- one by Miss Ginger, and one by Boy Ginger's generous employer!! There's only 6 left, and they will go quickly!

Friday night, Queen Ginger and King Tony were invited to perform at "Marty, the Montrose Art Party" benefiting the Healing Arts Program at Art League Houston. Although Miss G can barely draw a straight line with a ruler, she LOVES what the Healing Arts Program offers its clients, and she had a great time meeting them, seeing their work, and entertaining the crowd! 


Saturday is "errands" day at Chez Ginger, and Sunday has become "cook for the week" day, so the rest of the weekend is kinda shot. Then, all of next week will be a blur as Miss Ginger prepares for one of her most important events of the season, "Derby Day", her signature event benefiting Legacy! 

With all the interest in hats generated by the Royal wedding,  the Big Hat Contest is bound to be a major hoot!  Queen Ginger promises there will be lots of pics next weekend- but until then,  she may be a little scarce as she prepares herself and others for this big shindig!

Derby Day is Coming!!

It's hard to believe it's almost May, and time for our 4th Annual Derby Day Celebration, benefiting Legacy Community Health Services!  If you've not been to Derby Day before, be sure to come out and join the fun!  Derby Day is all about the hat, so be sure to create your fabulous, most gravity-defying chapeau to enter our Big Hat Contest!  Too butch for a bonnet?  This year,  we're adding a "Construction Hat Contest" to celebrating the progress of Legacy's fabulous new building on California Street in Montrose!  You won't want to miss our legendary Drag Horse Races, and of course, we'll televise the running of the race to see who can pick the winner!!

What a Week!

Miss Queen Ginger has not had a week this busy in forever- thank goodness!  It has left her exhausted an ready for the weekend!


It started with a huge meeting and store walk Tuesday morning..... at butt-crack:30 in the morning....  in Outer Mongolia!  Queen G hates the 'burbs, and she is NOT a morning person, so she was pretty weary before it even started!


The meeting went well, and the day ended early, so our girl was able to make it to the "topping off" ceremony (insert sophomoric comment here!) for the new Legacy Community Health Services building in Montrose. In a years' old steelworkers tradition, a tree is cut and placed at the top of the steel support structure of a construction site when the framework reaches its pinnacle with no injuries to the workers. 

Being the lifegivers that the folks at Legacy are, all living things were spared in their ceremony, so instead of having a chopped down pine tree stuck into the roofline, these clever healthcare professionals acquired a living oak, which they hoisted to the rooftop to celebrate the occasion. Eventually, the tree will join a bank of others that were spared in the planning of the building to create a beautiful, shaded landscape in the community!

It really is a beautiful, large tree, and sure enough, they hoisted that mother up there and placed it at the top of the building!  

Boy G got to mingle with the gliterati of the day, including Chree Boydstun, Legacy's Chief Development Officer and one of Ginger's biggest fans here in Houston!  After several many glasses of vino, poured by an incredibly cute flock of cater waiters, Queen G and the brood headed over to Cavatore's to drool over Federico and enjoy some delish, low-carb delights! It was a low-key, belated birthday celebration and a fabu time on a Tuesday night.














The next day, Boy G spent the day in the "Learning and Development Center" basement downtown, drinking koolaid developing and practicing corporate BS useful  skills for 11 long hours!  After that, the Krewe had a board meeting scheduled, and that came forth with more drama than a "Real Housewives of Rupaul's Drag Race" episode! 


Finally, today came, with another early start, but also an early finish!  Boy G is washing and packing and prepping for the venture to NOLA tomorrow to celebrate Mardi Gras in high-gay French Quarter style!  It looks like it's going to be a warm, sunny weekend in NOLA, so watch this spot for pics of dicks and lots of hot shirtless guys whoring for beads earning scholarship money!

Pathway to our Legacy...

Miss Ginger has taken a few moments from the drifts of glitter in the garage to catch you up on a few things going on around here!  It's been a crazy week!

Last night,  Miss G had occasion to dine at Reef, co-owned by the extremely handsome and uber-sexy Bryan Caswell, of Iron Chef fame!  A perfect choice for comfort food on a cold night, Miss G chose a dish Chef Bryan calls "Redfish on the Half Shell", which is a redfish fillet cut so that the skin and scales remain on one side.  The fish is grilled, scale side down, and the skin and scales get crispy and create a "shell" from which the fillet flakes away.  Simply divine, but the side with which it's served- Fried Mac and Cheese- is even more divine!  You'd think such a thing would be greasy, but what Reef serves is a brick of crunchy on the outside, rich on the inside goodness that is comfort food at it's finest!  Chef Bryan came over and spoke to our hostess for the evening, and he is just as sweet and cute as can be!


And since Miss G mentioned bricks, she's reminded to tell you the purpose of the evening!  Miss Ginger was invited by Str8upwithatwist, whom some of you may know as an occasional blogger, his neighbor Ben, whom Miss G adores, and his co-worker Robin, whom Miss G had not previously met. What Miss G did not know was that Timmy's boss, Katy Caldwell, Executive Director for Legacy Community Health Services, was to be our hostess for the evening.  Miss Ginger LOVES her some Katy, so she was thrilled to see her at the table!  Katy is a cat lover; she travels extensively; she knows a lot of the people Miss G knows:  needless to say, Miss G and Katy can gab on for hours about nothing!  But tonight, we had something special to talk about: Katy asked Miss Ginger and Ben to be co-chairs of Legacy's upcoming "Pathway to our Legacy" capital campaign!! You all know from reading TFBOMGG that Miss G is always ready to help out Legacy, so of course she was thrilled and honored to be part of this milestone!


Currently, Legacy operates it's main clinic in one building in Montrose, an eye clinic in another building across the neighborhood, and it's administrative offices in yet a third small building.  Support functions are scattered among the 3 buildings to make use of every inch of available space, and Miss Ginger has visited the facilities and seen these dedicated folks working in some really close quarters and tight spaces!  


Next September, however, Legacy will move it's main clinic, eye clinic, and all administrative and support functions into a beautiful new, state of the art, LEED compliant building! With all that extra space, they'll even be able to add dental services, to provide even more patient services to the Montrose community! The building is under construction and progressing nicely, and the capital campaign continues to ensure the construction is fully funded!


The "Pathway to Our Legacy" concept is a "paver campaign"  that will create the actually pathway to the clinic and cover the courtyard, as well.  Still in the planning stages, the campaign will give individuals, organizations, and companies an opportunity to show their support for the organization or preserve the memory of a loved one.  Miss Ginger will share more details as they become available!


Meanwhile, she has a Mardi Gras ball to prepare for and only 7 days left to get ready!!!

In Case Anyone Ever Wonders.....

... why Miss Ginger does what she "does"....

This photo she welched from David Dust's post (that he "retwitted" from Joe.My.God) serves as a grim reminder that, although HIV can be "controlled":   really???  Is a $5,763.08 prescription "controlled"?  For the math challenged out there,  that's $192 A DAY!!!


When Miss G and her friends put on our wigs and heels and host one of our little shows,  we are all "high-fiving" each other if we make $1,000!  That kinda dough means a girl put a lot of work into publicity,  attracted some big spenders,  and called in a few favors, of some type or another (feel free to use your imagination here!) 

That's enough cash to keep an HIV patient alive for (cue the tympani) FIVE DAYS!!!   Less than a week!  And, that's assuming the person is healthy enough and young enough to work, and pay the rest of the "normal" life expenses that all of us face!  The next time you think "I really need to kick this $5.00 a day Starbucks habit" or "Jeebus!  $59 a month is a lot for cable television!), put that number into perspective!!

So, if Miss G spends a month sewing a new gown,  and publicizes to her fans that she's going to wear a new creation so they'd better come see it for the first time (not like their not going to get to see it a million more times) and her really generous fans come and get drunk and tip and tip and tip and tip and she raises $1,000 bucks, she can keep an HIV patient alive for FIVE DAYS!!!  Wow, that's a lot of work!

But, it is work that is needed, and necessary, and good.  Real good!  And it feels good, too!  If you've not tried it, you should... you really should!

Okay, maybe not the wigs an heels part (after about 30 minutes, those don't feel so good!)  But the doing part. And the helping part. And the loving part.  Those parts feel real, real, good!  So try it!  And give Miss G a shout if you need help getting started!!  The more of that give, and work, and support the cause, the more people we can keep healthy! 

Miss Ginger Has the Sads....

... for Mr. Mischief's friend! (For those of you "in the know", Mr. Mischief is Mr.Miss Alaineous. But it's not apropos of the point!)


Mr. Mischief found out today that a classmate is dying of cancer.  This is a girl in his small work group, someone he sees often. She had no idea that she had cancer, then felt ill a few days, went to the doctor, and WHAM!: "terminal cancer, hitting hard and quick!"  No hope for recovery, just palliative care. She has no no husband, no kids, no parents....


Miss G has the sads for her... and others like her.... and those who interact with them daily.  


And she also has the sads for our "get it and go" society that so often loses patience with the world around us!


So please, GingerSnaps- think of this girl!  Think of the compassion she deserves. Think of the pain she will suffer. And think of her loneliness and desperation! 


And think of her often!  And think of her at the times when she can be an inspiration to us most!

Think of her when the girl at Macy's misplaces your "hold", even though it was the last size 12 on Earth!  That girl could be her!  Is that dress so important?


Think of her when the guy at Starbucks puts 3 Sweet and Lows instead of 3 Splendas in your triple-venti-non-fat-three-splenda latte!  That guy could be her!  Does that coffee really taste THAT bad?


Think of her when Socialite Barbie pulls her Benz in front of you as you turn into the garage for your checkup.  Didn't she see you coming? Maybe not. She may have had something more life-changing on her mind than your left turn!


Think of her when the old lady in line at Chick fil A has apparently never been to Chick fil A in her life, and doesn't realize there is only one choice here-  "original" or "grilled". That old lady could be her.  Can you really be selfish about YOUR time now?


Speaking of time:  when was the last time you volunteered a little of your own to help people like this young lady?  She's dying of cancer. She has no family.  She's gonna need some help here!

Don't let this young lady's suffering be in vain!  Perhaps her purpose in life is to serve as a reminder to us all that every moment of our lives deserves appreciation and respect!  Our moments on Earth are finite, and we must all use them in a way that will bring the most joy, peace, and happiness to the planet we share!

Miss Ginger implores you:  give some time-  give some money-  or just cut someone a little slack!  However you choose to give back,  your giving spirit will be rewarded tenfold, especially during the holidays, when needs peak and giving all but dries up for most charitable organizations!

Legacy Luncheon Video 2010

Here's a great video that describes perfectly why Miss Ginger feels Legacy Community Health Services is so important to the community- I think Martha Turner says it best in the video when she says "I cannot imagine what it would be like to know that I could not go to a doctor..." Miss Ginger couldn't have said it better herself, Martha, and it's great to know that know matter what happens in our lives, Legacy Community Health Services is there for all of us!

Happy Burch Day to You!!

When Miss Ginger awoke this morning, she knew that Boy G would be receiving an award from Legacy Community Health Services at their 8th Annual Luncheon.

What she did NOT know is that he would also receive an award from Mayor Annise Parker declaring today, September 21st, 2010 as George Burch Day in the City of Houston, Texas!!!

That's right!! Boy G has his own day!! September 21st!! Learn it, biotches!

Actually, he was truly touched and honored by the turnout today, and by the love and support shown him by his friends, family, and the entire community!! We ended the day with (several bottles of) prosecco at the Boom Boom Room! A delightful end to a delightful day!!

Today was so special, and ya wanna know the best part? Boy G marched right up to that microphone, swallowed his butterflies, and gave the acceptance speech of his life to almost 400 people!! He only had to fight back one tear, and I don't think anyone even noticed!! It was so easy because it was so heartfelt, and even though he had made notes for himself, he barely needed them!! Here's what he had to say:

"On behalf of Macy’s and all my coworkers, I humbly thank Legacy Community Health Services for this recognition, but more importantly, for the great work they do to keep Houston healthy! The commitment and dedication of my friends at Legacy is inspiring, and the work they do is truly what deserves accolades and awards.

5 years ago, when Macy’s expanded to the nationwide presence we enjoy today, the company made a commitment to give back to the communities we serve, at both a national and local level. Among the focus categories are HIV/AIDS awareness, women’s issue, and education: all hallmarks of the programs Legacy Community Health Services provides to Houston’s neighborhoods. It’s extremely gratifying to represent an employer that is so committed to causes that mean so much to the city, and I’m thrilled that through Macy’s Matching Gifts program, the District Grants program, and the Partners in Time Employee Volunteer program, we are able to directly support Legacy’s goal of “Extraordinary healthcare for Extraordinary people” throughout the community. Macy’s nationwide sponsorship of the United Way and the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” campaign also provide support for Legacy’s local healthcare initiatives. When I moved to Houston in the mid-80’s, AIDS and HIV infection were in still in crisis mode, and the Montrose Clinic treated many of my friends with dignity, compassion, and respect. Today, advance in medicine allow most people to survive HIV infection, and Legacy Community Health Services follows the legacy of the Montrose Clinic by keeping my friends alive with dignity, compassion, and respect. Truly a legacy worth celebrating!

As HIV infection has been managed and controlled with some success in the Gay community, it has continued to infect Hispanic and African American youth at an alarming rate. I’m proud to be able to help Legacy Community Health Services expand it’s care into the Lyon’s Avenue and Gulfton areas of Houston, not only to treat infection in those areas, but to educate the public and stop the spread, as well.

In closing, I’d like to thank Katy Caldwell and Chree Boydstun, and their staff and coworkers, for the friendship and encouragement that they have shown me these past few years. It’s been an honor to work with individuals who care about people as much as the folks at Legacy, and that’s really a reward of its own!"

Time to Ketch Up with Miss Ginger!

Damn, Miss G has been a busy gurl lately, and not in a That Girl, Mary Tyler Moore kind of way! She's been way too busy to blog, so here's a round of random updates, if anybody gives a shit:

1.Chez Ginger has the 5-year blues- everything is breaking! Dishwasher, icemaker, upstairs commode- fritz, fritz, fritz!! What a pain in the ass!!

2. Miss Ginger has the- ahem- 29 year blues. Let's face it, our gurl's not getting any younger, and this whirlwind lifestyle is taking a toll on her! She's tired all the time, her BP is up, and she has no idea where her cholesterol and triglycerides are, but they can't be good. And she hates going to the doctor because the diagnosis and treatment are always the same: you're fat- lose weight. Fuck you!

3. Boy Ginger has the workplace blues. The Ivory Tower Bosses are in their "mingle with the little people" mode and have developed an uncomfortable fascination with Texas. After hosting them here in H-town a couple of weeks ago, he's now being sent of to Dallas to help them get ready for a repeat performance. Grrrrr!

In the good news category:

The luncheon honoring Boy G's work for Legacy Community Health Services is coming this Tuesday. Boy G was planning to take the day off from work and make a party of it, but the Dallas trip and a couple of other responsibilities kinda shitted on that. Kinda sucks, really, because last year we had a hoot of a time drinking martinis and shaking the stress off, but time just won't allow this year. There's a few vacant seats- if any local snaps want to come, Miss G would love to see you!

Then in October, the Krewe has it's annual Fais Do Do dinner. It's a big shindig, and worth a trip to H-town if anyone's in the mood to travel! There's always plenty of libations, put Krewe-made cajun food, music, a silent auction, and an art show and sale.

Then, the weekend after that, Miss G jets off to Oakland, CA, to mingle with FABULOUS GingerSnap Nancy and her little mermaid munchkins! Miss Ginger spending the weekend with children should make for some interesting blogging, at least!

8^th Annual Luncheon on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Houston’s Wortham Theatre, Grand Foyer at 11:30 AM

This year Legacy Community Health Services will benefit from the proceeds of its 8^th annual luncheon held on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, honoring Frank Campisi for his exceptional support of Legacy Community Health Services over the last 30 years. In addition, George Burch, a great supporter of Legacy and District Manager at Macy’s, a Houston landmark and advocate for all of Legacy’s services, will be the 2010 corporate honorees.

All proceeds from this year’s luncheon will benefit Legacy’s highly regarded healthcare programs – from our maternity and pediatric services to our social and medical services for people living with HIV/AIDS. Legacy provides a comprehensive set of health and wellness programs at four different clinics in some of Houston’s low-income neighborhoods.

We hope you will join us in raising the funds that will make a difference in the lives of so many people in need of quality primary healthcare services. Isn't it Ironic? (and yeah, I really do think...)

How ironic is it that around the same time that BP finally manages to do SOMETHING semi-successful to stop the surge of oil into the Gulf, the oil itself makes its most dramatically damaging landfall yet, on the snowy white beaches of Pensacola, Florida?

And to make it the timing even more reprehensible, it was the same weekend that Jimmy Buffet planned to open his first

Margaritaville Hotel in Pensacola! Dead oysters, oily birds, fucked up beaches, and thousands of

people out of work! How much worse can this get?

And just about the time public opinion of BP couldn't get any lower, this image starts to circulate the interwebz! WTF?! Reap what ye shall sow!!

But it's not all bad news!! Miss Ginger's RoundUp went on as planned, and Miss G got to wear this FABULOUS sparkling cowgirl look designed and created by "Momma" Weldon!

She and her FABULOUSLY handsome dancers started the show with a western boogie that got the crowd shakin'!

After Miss G and the boys, one of Miss Ginger's Best Sisters (and Miss Mint Julep 2006) Aurora Briar, took to this stage in a Cravyn original pink and black number that knocked our socks off!!

Mona Lotta, the reigning Miss Mint Julep, rounded out the Julep returns in this dazzling cowgirl ensemble!

In addition to the returning Juleps, we also featured some aspiring Juleps, our candidates for Mint Julep 2010, including the incredibly hot and leather-clad Alex Stroud, and the adorable and bubbly Isabella Rose Mink!

What a great night was had as we raised $4,000 for Legacy Community Health Services! All in all, a pretty FABULOUS day!

This Week in Gingerland!!

OMG so much going on, it may take Miss Ginger a week of posts to catch you all up!

Most importantly, BP has managed to insert a tube into the leaking pipe at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico to collect the fluids erupting uncontrollably from the Earth. Wonder where they got THAT idea?

Miss G spent Saturday at the tire store getting new tires for Veronique. Those low-profile tires, like most things Italian, sure are gorgeous, but also like most things Italian, are quite delicate!

Think about it- that last pair if Italian shoes you bought sure were pretty, but they lasted about a minute! Or take Franco here:
Sure, he's all rugged and beautiful on the outside, but you know he's a big ole momma's boy who cries at the opera! Miss Ginger is so facinated by this phenomena that she has planned a trip to Italy this summer to research it more for you! Stay tuned for those plans and more "Summer Travels with Miss Ginger!"

And closer to home on the fundraising front, Soiree Pelouse was this weekend, but Miss Ginger took a pass. It's not like her to skip a benefit party, especially one that benefits Legacy, but there was something about this one that bugged her. Long ago, for many years, there was a party in Houston called "The Garden Party" that took place every summer on a Sunday afternoon. Since it's demise, LOTS of different groups have organized various and sundry afternoon parties on Sunday, yet none have had the AUDACITY to claim a connection to Garden Party, until this one. It happens on a Sunday afternoon- that's about the only link it has!

Plus, hanging out with a bunch of people dressed as Oompa Loompas on a hot summer afternoon just did not seem like Miss G's idea of a good time. Color her jaded.

Instead, Miss G got some gardening done, spent some time with a dear drag sister who is distraught over the end of a 10 year relationship, and took a nap with the kitties. Good times!
