If you didn't study history in the state of Texas (neither did Miss Ginger!) you may not realize that Texas has it's very own Independence Day, and it's very own Declaration of Independence! On March 2nd, 1836, Texas declared it's independence from Mexico and became The Republic of Texas. It was a very short lived republic, however, as Texas became the 28th state in 1845. During the American Civil War, Texas left the union again to become part of the Confederate States of America, and was restored with the rest of the South at war's end.
It really is a State holiday in Texas!
In other Texas news, it's election day! Houston's former Mayor
Bill White is running for Governor, so Miss G has to head out and vote for him!
The Caucus is also encouraging a vote to reelect Sheila Jackson Lee, but Miss G simply can't do it!
How would YOU vote?

Wow.. I did not know this! You learn something new everyday! Julie
Miss ginger-I am glad you celebrated Independence Day by voting, I did too. Thought I would let you know that one of my ancestors, Martin Parmer signed the original document. Good Luck Bill White-could not vote for her either. MBC
